Dr Nerissa Stander is the primary radiologist at Vet Imaging Specialists. Adding to our portfolio of expertise, we have two other radiologists, Prof. Robert Kirberger and Dr Mika Frances who intermittently work as consultant radiologists for Vet Imaging Specialists.

Our staff deal with all aspects of booking referrals including client and veterinarian queries, insurance form processing and patient care.

Nerissa graduated from the University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2002 after which she spent 4 years working in small animal practice in the United Kingdom, including an internship at a large multidisciplinary referral hospital, Davies Veterinary Specialists.  She then returned to South Africa to specialise in Diagnostic Imaging and conducted a parallel European College Diagnostic Imaging residency program. After successful completion of her exams in 2010, she became a South African Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging Specialist and then a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. After her residency she took up a post as Senior Lecturer in Radiology at the University of Pretoria. In July 2012 Nerissa and her family relocated to Perth where she set up the Vet Imaging Specialists business. She enjoys teaching and is an accomplished public speaker having extensively presented continuing veterinary education courses and guest lectures. Nerissa has published several papers as well as co-authored and authored book chapters in the BSAVA manuals of canine and feline abdominal and musculoskeletal imaging. Nerissa has a special interest in echocardiography, gastrointestinal ultrasonography and advanced imaging modalities but never tires of looking at radiographs!

Dr. Lucinda Wildie



Lu gained her veterinary degree from Murdoch University in 2018. Since graduating, she has worked primarily in small animal general practice and has completed a number of continuing education courses in diagnostic imaging, including ultrasound workshops and her PennHIP certification.

Lu’s primary role at Vet Imaging Specialists will be assisting Nerissa with outpatient ultrasounds, however she will also be pursuing some research and studying for the Australian and New Zealand Membership examinations in Diagnostic Imaging, which she hopes to complete in 2022.

Outside of being a vet; Lu and her partner enjoy taking their Labrador, Harriet, and Golden Retriever, Aggie, to the beach and spoiling their cats Gary and Morris.

Dr. Kevin Kang



Kevin gained his veterinary degree from The University of Sydney in 2013. Since graduating, he has worked in small animal practice in Australia (Orange, Canberra, Perth) and New Zealand. Kevin has completed a Rotating Internship at Massey University, New Zealand (2017) and a Small Animal Medicine Internship at Murdoch University, Australia (2018). During his Small Animal Medicine Internship, Kevin completed a postgraduate teaching qualification, and he achieved Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (UK) in 2020.

He is also a Fear Free Certified Professional, and he is passionate about creating a safe and friendly veterinary experience for your pets.

Kevin has a keen interest in diagnostic imaging, and his primary role in VIS is to assist Dr Nerissa Stander with outpatient ultrasounds. Currently, Kevin is completing the Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Abdominal Ultrasound through The University of Melbourne.

Dr. Sasha Hayward

Sasha graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science in 2012. After completing an equine veterinary internship she worked in equine practice at a number of general practices and university teaching hospitals across Australia. She then went on to work for a global teleradiology company whilst completing a Bachelor of Science.

Sasha is excited to be transitioning into companion animal practice and is thoroughly enjoying working with the team at Vet Imaging Specialists in an administrative capacity.
